KIM Namdoo | b.1985, Korea

KIM Namdoo explores the structures of competition, material desire, and the tensions they generate in contemporary society through sculptural works that combine glass and ceramics. His practice centers on figurative forms that integrate both decorative and sculptural qualities, constructing narrative scenes that metaphorically reflect social systems.

His Golden Binoculars series symbolically addresses vision, power, and systems of perception, subverting the viewer’s position and visual authority. In the Present series, he combines ceramic bodies with glass structures to present contemporary human figures shaped by desire, control, and mechanical order. The contrast between materials reinforces both the sensorial appeal and the critical dimension of his work.

KIM has exhibited widely across Korea, the United States, Europe, and Japan. His works are held in major collections, including the Alexander Tutsek-Stiftung in Germany, as well as other public and private collections internationally. He is currently based in the United States.
