JANG Kyungnam graduated from the Department of Metal Craft at Hongik University and moved to Toyama, Japan in 1992 to study at the Toyama Institute of Glass Art. He is currently a professor at Kurashiki University of Science and the Arts.
His work is characterized by large-scale cast glass forms that balance the material’s inherent weight with a refined interplay of soft curves and rigid linearity. Light passing through the carved glass, along with subtle variations in tone created by thickness, generates both depth and warmth. His practice is distinguished by meticulous hand-finishing, achieved through an extended and highly disciplined process.
JANG has received major recognition in Japan, including the Grand Prize at the Contemporary Glass Triennial Toyama 2005 and at the Japan Glass Exhibition (2002). At the time of these awards, jurors praised his work for its originality, its balance between form and concept, and its exceptional technical mastery—qualities that position his practice firmly within the realm of fine art.
His works are held in major Japanese museum collections, including the Notojima Glass Art Museum, Koganezaki Crystal Park, and Toyamura Museum of Art.
