PARK Sungwon is a first-generation Korean glass artist who has explored the inner landscape of human existence through the medium of glass. After studying at the Royal College of Art in London, he established the glass program at Korea National University of Arts, laying the foundation for a professional education system encompassing both blowing and casting techniques.
His Self-Portrait series, combining wood and glass, embodies a tension and resonance between the cold rigidity of glass and the warm organic nature of wood. These works evoke the artist’s internal landscape while reflecting the quiet tension and emotional density of contemporary life, layered with depth and subtlety.
In 2016, he held a solo exhibition occupying the entire space of the Seoul Museum of Art (Nam-Seoul Museum of Art). He has participated in major institutional exhibitions, including at the POSCO Art Museum, Coreana Museum of Art, Daejeon Museum of Art, and the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea (MMCA). His practice has made a significant contribution to establishing glass as an independent sculptural discipline within Korean contemporary art.
