Gallery Sklo is pleased to present 『Underland: Golden Binoculars』, the second solo exhibition by Kim Namdoo. This exhibition is the culmination of Kim’s long-standing Golden Binoculars series and brings to life the fictional world of Underland—a conceptual universe the artist has developed over several years. By integrating sculpture and a newly completed animation into a unified spatial narrative, the exhibition offers an immersive experience that invites viewers into Kim’s philosophical imagination.

The six-minute digital animation, created over the course of a year, features all the main characters from Kim’s previous works. Through the story of children who embark on a journey toward utopia in trust, and a controlling figure known as “Present,” this experimental piece unfolds the structure of illusion surrounding the golden binoculars and its recurring, cyclical narrative in a fairy tale-like visual language.

The exhibition space is composed as a “narrative room,” guiding visitors through a seamless journey—from the animation into darker spaces that house the mask and mirage works. This spatial transition leads viewers into a reflective passage, posing questions rather than offering conclusions.

Underland: Golden Binoculars aspires to transform the gallery into both a “sculptural mirror” and a “site of contemplation.” The artist hopes this exhibition will serve as a point of departure for further expanding the Underland world. Through his deep engagement with materials and themes—and his commitment to experimental, hands-on processes—Kim Namdoo continues to chart a distinct and vital path in contemporary art.
