Gallery Sklo is pleased to present KIM Joonyong's solo exhibition,《The Sublime from Nature》from October 18 to November 23. This marks his second solo exhibition at Gallery Sklo since 2012, showcasing 23 new works.
Through this exhibition, Kim offers a deeply personal meditation on the sublime, capturing the profound beauty he encounters in nature and delicately embedding it within glass. He focuses particularly on the moments of sunrise and sunset, capturing them not as mere instances of disappearance but as part of the cyclical flow of nature, weaving their essence into his narrative and preserving it within the glass. Through this light, he inscribes his narrative into the glass. Kim's long-standing practice of grinding glass objects to reveal and resurrect light through dissolution has undergone a rigorous process of labor, gradually leading to both technical and spiritual maturation.
Critic CHO Saemi writes that Kim is “an artist who materializes the spectrum of light at dawn and dusk, striving to capture fleeting moments as they leave their traces, and positioning himself as a messenger of the sublime.” The works in this exhibition invite viewers to witness not only the transparency of color, but the play of light and shadow, and to feel the subtle emotional resonance created by the fine gradations in thickness and form.
