Gallery Sklo presents Park Sunghoon’s second solo exhibition, 《Fractures of Time and Light》.
From the ‘Void’ series to ‘Breathing Void’, Park Sunghoon has persistently explored the intertwined notions of ‘emptiness’ and ‘expansion.’ If ‘Void’ embodied the condensation of energy infused with breath, the new ‘Breathing Void’ works are grounded in the artist’s DNA-like ‘hexagonal’ structure. They bear the strata of accumulated time and reveal breathing spaces through the fragmentation and recomposition of light. The hexagonal pattern is not a decorative motif but a fundamental device for his experiments with infinity—like the panels of a spacecraft gathering immense light and releasing it back into the cosmos. Along the glass surface, light is ceaselessly fractured and reorganized, generating new colors, spaces, and perceptual layers that draw viewers into experiences of variation without end.
What distinguishes these works is that such structures and processes move beyond visual effect to expand into the theme of the ‘materialization of time.’ Park treats ‘light’ and ‘time’ as equal substances, inscribing geological rhythms into glass through repeated surface refinement and disciplined gesture. Just as rocks and glaciers are shaped by the sedimentation and erosion of time, his practice crystallizes condensed temporality within glass itself. This exhibition follows the trajectory from ‘Void’ to ‘Breathing Void’, presenting the culmination of Park’s thought and experimentation. His new works, traversing stratified time and refracted light, propose the possibility of infinity within the finite, opening new horizons of perception through fracture and emptiness.
